Balsall Common based Berkswell Cricket Club plays Premier Division club cricket, at a level just below the professional County circuit, in the world-renowned Birmingham & District Premier League. The Birmingham League sits above a pyramid of County feeder Leagues and includes clubs from Warwickshire and the West Midlands, Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire.
About Berkswell Cricket Club
Berkswell is an ECB Premier Division Club, now famous in cricketing circles for doing battle with bigger outfits such as Wolverhampton, West Bromwich Dartmouth, Shrewsbury and Kidderminster Victoria, to name just a few. Since arriving in the Premier Division in 2012 Berkswell has finished in the Top 6 every season, including a 2nd place finish behind Champions Shrewsbury in 2015, before claiming the title for the first time in 2016. Such is the recent success at the club, that a 3rd placed finish in 2017 was considered a disappointment, although a look at the abandonments column in the 2017 league table suggests the weather was considerably less kind to Berkswell than it was to Champions Knowle & Dorridge and 2nd placed Shrewsbury.
Berkswell Youth Cricket for Top Level Coaching
Berkswell is also one of the top clubs in the West Midlands for youth cricket, providing access to the very best available coaches for children aged 7 years upwards. The club offers a clear pathway to the professional game for the most talented youngsters, with a coaching team led by Complete Cricket, that includes a string of current and former professionals such as Dominic Ostler, Nick James, Jamie Spires and Tom Milnes.
Berkswell’s first team squad is led by Warwickshire batting legend Dominic Ostler and the club also enjoys the services of ex-England and Warwickshire legend Darren Maddy, Derbyshire’s Tom Milnes, and the Birmingham League’s 2014 Young Player of the Year, the left-handed opening batsman Mark Best. In 2017 Berkswell signed Ryan Sidebottom, a British Passport holding Australian fast bowler from Victoria. He had such a successful campaign that Warwickshire signed him halfway through the season where he went on to establish himself as a regular in their 4 Day Championship side.
