17th-century Nailcote Hall in leafy Berkswell is home to a Par 3 Championship Golf Course that many seasoned professionals rate alongside Augusta for top-quality short-course golf. The 4-star hotel’s attractive 9-hole course offers a serious challenge to golfers of all abilities across 10 acres.
The Cromwell Course has been painstakingly redeveloped by owner Rick Cressman to challenge the best exponents of the short-game, with new water hazards and general landscaping introduced in 2015.
Nailcote Hall hosts the Farmfoods British Par 3 Championships every summer under the glare of the Sky TV cameras and it’s thanks to this tournament that golfing great Ian Woosnam became one of Nailcote Hall’s biggest advocates. After shooting a competitive British Par 3 Championships round a few seasons ago he said:
“It has been great! The course is a great course. I shot level par and I’m quite happy with that!”
Woosnam is not alone amongst golf’s big names when it comes to singing the praises of Nailcote’s challenging course either. Former Ryder Cup player Brian Barnes has even claimed the Cromwell as being:
“Better than the Masters Par 3 Course!”
Nailcote Hall has hosted 3 former Ryder Cup captains – Sam Torrance, Ian Woosnam and Tony Jacklin – in one competition simultaneously. The famous trio competed in the British Par 3 Championships together in 2014 and Nailcote’s owners are adding new features and facilities for golf enthusiasts all the time, with a brand new clubhouse for the golfing contingent, as well as new hotel wing, both of which opened in early 2015.
